Making this Homemade Cinnamon Applesauce is rather easy. This recipe makes enough for six servings. To get started, you will need 4 pounds of fully peeled, cored, and sliced Granny Smith apples, ¾ cups of water, ½ cup of brown sugar, 1 tablespoon of cinnamon, and 1 teaspoon of lemon juice. As you can tell, this recipe only requires a few ingredients. However, the ingredients come together well to form this unique and familiar autumn staple.

To make this, place your sliced apples in a pot with water, brown sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice. Then, bring everything to a boil. Once it is brought to a boil, reduce the heat to medium and cover with a lid to cook for 20 minutes. After 20 minutes, turn off the heat and remove the lid. Finally, using either a potato masher or a blender, mash the apple mixture until you reach your desired texture. You can serve this either chunky or smooth. Serve it warm or cold and simply enjoy. It’s as easy as that, folks!

You can certainly buy your apples from your local grocery store, however, it is so much more rewarding to pick them yourself! If you live near an apple orchard, then take advantage of all the fall beauty and enjoy a day of apple picking. Depending on where you live, there are many apple orchards all around with ripe and juicy apples just waiting to be picked by you! Picking your own apples can also help you save a little money as opposed to buying them from your local grocery store.

This Homemade Cinnamon Applesauce can be eaten as a breakfast,  snack, dessert, or side dish. Have you ever had pork chops with applesauce? Well, when you make this applesauce, bake, sear, or fry up some pork chops to go with it. Oh, and did you know that applesauce can be used in desserts such as cakes, muffins, and bread? That’s right! When applesauce is incorporated in desserts, it keeps food moist. Feel free to omit the cinnamon if you do not want that flavor in your desserts.

It’s fun learning how foods can be used for different dishes. Isn’t it? Well, whether you choose to eat your Homemade Cinnamon Applesauce as is, or include it in something else, Enjoy it to the fullest! Make it as chunky or as smooth as you like and enjoy the pleasant smell that wafts through your home!
