Pizza in a Pinch

It’s…Pizza Night! If you love no-fuss recipes, then this Pizza in a Pinch recipe is the one for you! And, if you’re not much of a cook, then don’t worry this recipe is not made entirely from scratch. If you are a cook and love making most of your meals from scratch, I’m so sorry to disappoint you. However, don’t click off just yet! It’s worth making this. This recipe is kid-friendly and delicious!

This recipe is quite nostalgic for me. As a child, Friday night Pizza nights were pretty common in my household. We would typically order out from our favorite local pizza parlor. However, on some nights, my parents would let me and my sister make the pizza. It wasn’t from scratch, but we didn’t care. Our ingredients came from a simple pizza kit. My sister and I felt like real chefs! We had a blast while doing it. And, if you have children, I hope you have a blast making this pizza with them too.

Ingredients

  • 1 1 frozen pizza crust

  • 1/2 cup 1/2 pizza sauce

  • 3/4 cup 3/4 shredded low-moisture mozzarella cheese

  • 1 teaspoon 1 dried oregano

  • 1/4 teaspoon 1/4 sea salt

Directions

  • Preheat oven to 420°F/215°C.
  • Spread pizza sauce on crust being sure to leave about 1 inch of outside crust without any sauce.
  • Toss shredded mozzarella cheese with oregano and salt.
  • Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese over sauce.
  • Place on a baking sheet or in a cast iron skillet.
  • Bake for 12 to 15 minutes or until cheese is fully melted.
  • Slice, serve and enjoy!

It can be hard to find a good crust. So, it might take a bit of trial and error for you to decide on one. This is partly because there are so many options nowadays. There’s regular crust, wheat crust, gluten-free crust, cheese crust, and even…cauliflower crust! All of those options can be overwhelming. Choose whatever you like best. For this recipe, I opted for a frozen organic pizza crust.

You will want to top your crust with some quality ingredients. Use a quality tomato sauce and a quality low-moisture cheese. Low-moisture mozzarella melts well on top of the pizza when baking. I kept it simple and made a plain cheese pizza. However, you can get as creative as you would like with any toppings of your choice.

I had a huge ball of mozzarella that I shredded with my cheese grater. Shredding the mozzarella myself felt therapeutic. It’s always fun shredding cheese! Use as much as you would like. I then mixed some dried oregano and salt into the cheese and spread it in an even layer on the sauce.

This pizza only needed to be baked at 420°F for 12 minutes. At the 12 minute mark, the mozzarella cheese was more than melted. I just couldn’t wait to slice into it and relive those Friday night pizza memories.

A simple rule of thumb for you when making this is to use the right ingredients that work for you. Use your very favorites. You want to be able to enjoy and love every single component that goes into making this pizza.

And, just to reiterate, do not feel bad about not making your dough and sauce from scratch. Less work means the faster you can eat! And, that is the most perfect treat! Hopefully, you enjoy this recipe. Create special memories for you and your children, today!
