Famous Bakery Inspired Banana Pudding

What can I say about this recipe?  Basically, it speaks for itself. However, if I can add my own review, I would say that  this old-fashioned Famous Bakery Inspired Banana Pudding is not only delicious but is dreamy and creamy.

The deliciousness will have you wanting more with the very first spoonful. I know I did. In fact, I had a heaping bowl and had to suppress my palate to not crave more until the next day, of course. And, I had to share with my family, which probably was a good thing, because they enjoyed every bite too. I was quite content knowing that this dish did not disappoint any of us. Take my word for it, and my family’s of course, this Banana Pudding recipe needs to be the dessert you take to the get togethers.

Ingredients

  • 14-ounces condensed milk

  • 1 ¼ cups 1 ¼ water

  • One 3-ounce One package Jell-O Vanilla Cook & Serve pudding

  • 1 teaspoon 1 vanilla extract

  • 4 cups 4 heavy whipping cream

  • One 11-ounce One box Nilla Wafers

  • 2 2 just ripe bananas, thinly sliced

Directions

  • To Make:
  • In a medium-sized saucepan, over medium-low heat, stir together condensed milk, water, pudding mix and vanilla extract until thick like pudding.
  • Remove from the heat and allow to cook completely.
  • Next, using a stand mixer or a hand mixer, mix heavy whipping cream until it forms stiff peaks.
  • Mix the cooled Jell-O mixture into the whipped cream.
  • To Assemble:
  • Scoop a layer of the pudding mixture at the bottom of a dish. Add cookies and sliced bananas. Repeat in layers until each ingredient is used. Be sure to finish the top layer off with just cookies. Crush the remaining cookies if you must.
  • Refrigerate for 2 hours.
  • Serve cold and enjoy!

The hardest part about making this dish was waiting for it to set in the refrigerator. I made a cold Banana pudding. I tend to be impatient when I am yearning to taste something that I know is going to be really good. I am glad I waited, because it was well worth the wait.

I remember my grandma’s Banana Pudding when I was younger. She layered the pudding, Nilla Wafers and bananas twice and she saved the last layering for me to place the Nilla Wafers on top. She put her Banana Pudding in the oven and then, once it cooled, stuck it in the icebox. That is what my southern family members called the refrigerator. She would let me eat it straight out the oven once it cooled for about 15 minutes. I loved it warm too, especially hers. Everything my grandma made was made with love and that is why everything tasted so incredibly good.

Banana Pudding has been around for a long time. There is no right or wrong way to make it. Add more bananas if you wish or more wafers, but you cannot mess up a Banana Pudding recipe if you follow the simple steps.

My only tip: Just cook with LOVE and your family and friends will devour it every single time. Enjoy every Creamy, Dreamy and Delicious spoonful!

  1. This has been my go-to banana pudding recipe for some time. My daughter asked for it rather than a cake but she asked me to use Nutter Butters instead of wafers. Everyone raved!
